The purpose of the project was to develop a coherent policy framework that would assist in the development of the supply chain sector in Greece, by anticipating trends from the external environment and which significantly affect the overall competitiveness of the sector. The object of the project was the mapping and understanding of the supply chain, the evaluation of its competitive position and the possibilities / conditions for its improvement, the identification of the main trends, technological developments, future perspectives and institutional / operational barriers to the competitive development of the Supply Chain sector and supporting the operation of a business team to design alternative strategic development proposals for the sector.
Kantor in collaboration with the Hellenic Logistics Company provided the following services:
Phase A: Mapping of supply chain companies and assessment of the current situation
- Description of the supply chain value and its key subsectors in terms of services offered by each industry, level of specialization, productive relationships, key technologies, innovation, size and stage of development, skills and competitive advantages required
- Identification of major international and domestic trends by industry, as well as technological developments and future prospects
- Evaluation of the attractiveness of the sector and the sub-sectors based on its financial figures
- Identification of Greek companies operating within the sector and their categorization into sectors
- Assessment of the skill level of human resources
- Evaluation of the relative competitiveness of Greek companies in the sectors in which they operate and identification of gaps in the value chain
- Identification of institutional, operational and other obstacles to the development and / or improvement of competitiveness
Phase B: Strategic Plan for the development of companies in the supply chain sector
- Establishment of a pilot team of at least 10 companies representative of the main industries and value chain of the supply chain sector and implementation of actions aimed at highlighting development opportunities and planning alternative strategic proposals for medium and long term development of the sector.
- Identification of development opportunities and elaboration of alternative development strategies of the sector companies in new markets and new products / services (scenarios-means and conditions-limitations). The development plan resulted in proposals for the necessary emphasis and adaptations to the overall strategy of existing and new businesses, and in particular to their organization, the technologies used and technological collaborations, the required staff skills and the development of a general culture of extroversion.
- Development of a program of joint actions (cooperation of scale and technology, provision of advanced internet services - B2B or B2C, joint programs for the development of human resources, extroversion actions, etc.).
- Preparation of a policy proposal for the development of the supply chain sector and the strengthening of the competitiveness of the companies that make it up, as well as the overall economy of the country. The policy proposals concerned the adoption of strategies for a more comprehensive exit from the economic crisis, as well as the necessary institutional interventions that will create a more favorable external environment for the companies in the sector.
